The Things You Can Read welcomes you and thanks you for your readership. We, here at The Things You Can Read, ask your help, if you visit our site regularly, please follow us either via email or Google Friend Connect.  Launched on June 7, 2012, our site has already attracted a great deal of attention.  One of the goals of the site is to feature reviews of Children's Picture Books, Young Adult novels and Adult Literary Fiction/Nonfiction.  A second goal for the blog is to be a resource for teachers of English and writing--with examples of student created writing, writing tips, resource links, and the opportunity to pick the brain of a seasoned English teacher.  To spice things up...every now and then, we'll also include random quotes and thoughts on education and life in general, but our ultimate goal is to reach out into the blogosphere and be a "Book Whisperer" and "Writing Whisperer" to children and adults of all ages.   Thank you for your readership.  Here is to a lifetime filled with reading and writing.

This I Believe...Sam

This I Believe...Sam

Day 1
What could describe me?
  • Honesty
  • Compassion
  • Empathy
  • Respect
  • Faith
  • Knowledge
  • Freedom
  • Creativity
  • Dedication
  • Loyalty
  • Reliability
  • Responsibility
  • Hope

I will show my beliefs by creating a collage...
I chose to do this option because I enjoy creating different things, out of different things! I enjoy creating collages, which was something I use to do has a bit of a hobby. My collage will include different words, a large variety of pictures, and of course, my
beliefs.

                My reflection of today...

I thought today was really fun! I enjoyed creating this blog, and all the other activities we have done. I'm excited for tomorrow and can't wait to see what's in store for tomorrow. I think my favorite part of today was creating a blog, because this is actually something I've always wanted to learn to do. There's no way I'm not coming back tomorrow!

Day 2

Sam’s Value Report Card

1.     Faith- B.

Narrative: Why? Because, it’s still something I’m working on. I feel as if I am doing well with this, but I don’t think that I do enough. I’d like to improve on this value. Perhaps I could improve by talking with my family every night, or maybe saying a small prayer every night. I believe this is something I could work on.

2.   Freedom- C.

Narrative: Why? I would give myself this one because I am still not at the level I would like to be with this one. I do tend to be independent, but not as much as I’d like to be. I feel if I try to be more independent and do what I’d like every once in a while, I could get to that level I’m striving for.

3.   Honesty- C.

Narrative: Why? I think I do okay with this one. I try to be honest, but sometimes I fear that if I’m too honest, it will leave the other person hurt. I’m also not very honest with myself sometimes. I feel if I try and goal that I strive for.

Sam’s Beliefs

I believe in the respect and love of others

The dedication of hard work

The compassion of family

The loyalty of friends

The positive aspect of music

Hope, success, patience

But the fact that we can’t respect each other’s beliefs is absolutely outrageous.

I believe in the light that will guide you

I believe in the truth that will help you

I believe in the beauty in people

Sincerity, courage, confidence

And I believe in respect of everyone. That people should be able to live their life the way they see it to be, and that we should respect each other’s choices, decisions, and opinions, even if we do not agree with them.

Reaction to today:
I thought today was awesome!! I enjoyed writing the poems, and creating word art! I am really glad I decided to join this class! I love the people in it, and all of the fun activities we have been doing. I am also excited for the collages!! Wonder what we'll be doing tomorrow?

Day 3:

CHALK ART!
Today we went outside into our school's courtyard and wrote out our beliefs in chalk!
We also got to decorate it however we wanted.
Here are some pictures!

Here were some of mine:

Everyone did great! Here are some of there's:

I am…

I am curious and bright

I wonder what’s inside

I hear your hate

I see the truth

I want to know, what’s wrong with you?

I am curious and bright

I pretend to be optimistic

I feel the need to inquire

I touch the hope of many, and try to believe it too

I worry about our future

I cry over the past

I am curious and bright

I understand your thoughts

I say love is real

I dream and hope for it, too

I try to be confident

I hope for us to be happy

I am curious and bright

-Sam

Day 3 reflection...
Today was great! I really enjoyed writing our poems, and writing outside with our chalk. I like how in this class, you can be honest. How you can say what you believe without any controversy and people fighting. I am (and I know I have said this before) so glad that I decided to join this class!! As said before, it's a safe place to talk about your beliefs, and I like how everyone is willing to listen. Can't wait for tomorrow!

Day 4

   Someday…

Someday, I’ll be an artist

Someday, I’ll be a great swimmer

Someday, I’ll finally sleep

Someday, I’ll write a book

Someday, I’ll be noticed

Someday, I’ll find peace

Someday, I’ll go to space

Someday, I’ll write a song

Someday, I’ll go to Japan

Someday, I’ll finally be healthy

Someday, I’ll be a good dancer

Someday, I’ll be an animator

Someday, I’ll go to Taiwan

Someday, I’ll play the violin without any mistakes

Someday, I’ll meet some of my idols

Someday, I’ll see my dad again.

I am looking out the window and I see…

            Faith

I speak, and hear my dad respond with words of wisdom.

I taste the bread of compassion and love.

I envision the storms, and then see the light.

I brush against the hope that tomorrow will be a better day.

I smell the scent of the many candles in honor of him.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

My reflection of today...
Today was great! We are now planning out our projects (Remember the collage?) and I am pretty excited! I also enjoyed writing the
two poems above! See you all next week!

Day 5
Morning thoughts...
I've been trying to decide all of what I need/want. I've collected a lot of pictures, cards, things from my childhood along with various paints, glitter glues, markers, and other crafting supplies. I do feel like as the week goes on I'll find more and more things to add onto my collage, such as old pictures, books, more cards, ect. I'm hoping I'll be able to finish the collage by the end of the week!

Reflection of today...

Today was great! We spent the entire day working our projects. I had a lot of fun, even if there was a bit of an accident with mod podge, but you can succeed without failure! I think I got a lot done, including creating a background, which consisted of a bunch of stars since I chose a black canvas, gluing down all of my pictures, and gluing down all of the little toys I brought in that
were special to me. I might add some glitter, paint, and other decorations, and possibly adding things to the back. I'm not sure if I should use another canvas or not, but I will think about it.

Day 6

Pictures of Yesterday and Progress:

 Morning Thoughts...
None. I just want to work! I think I'm pretty close to finishing.

Day 6 Reflection...
Today was a good day. I've mostly been kind of decorating my collage, and waiting for the paints and things to dry.  I've finished for the most part, but I do think there are still some finishing touches I would like to add.
I've decided what I want to do to the back, but I'm going to wait until tomorrow to tell because I'd like to see if I can pull it off.

Day 7

Morning thoughts...
Not many. I just want to focus on finishing my collage today so I will be ready for presentations.

This I believe…
